Things here on the farm have been so busy. The silos are empty, and it is time for the cows to go out to summer pasture. It comes with mixed emotions. I love to see them, let out in the spring for the first time, running around, not knowing where to go next. Tails high in the air as they race around, kicking up their hooves~ There is always one, one cow that decides she should go back to the barn....the rest follow, like she may know where something wonderful is~So they all head straight back up , get to the barn door, realize it is shut .... look around and head back down to the knee high green grass. For some it takes awhile to figure out that is lunch and dinner, others go right for it tongues tearing the grass off, mouths stuffed full. Stopping to rub an itch on every post and tree. On the down side it is a week of frustration for us . The older cows know, they remember the routine .... when Iris was alive she would lead them in blatting at the top of her lungs, annoucing the herd had arrived ..... its milking time, come in get some corn, get milked. But for the newer younger heifers, aside from following the older girls, they are clueless. They come right up to the barn door, look around and then decide to race back down to the pasture. It takes all hands on deck the first few days to get them all in. When they do manage to get them to get in the barn. they they aren't sure what to do next, they will not go in a stall, or will squish into anothers stall..... so much fun~ It requires alot of patience, and extra time. Of course after the first week,...or two.... most have it downpat, but there is always a few that just make you want to pull your hair out~ha~
My art has been minimal as we finish up kitchen renovations, and my other farm duties increase, but I try to find some time each day to get something down. I did a pretty new Ewe-La and some new earrings~But the main focus this week is working at getting some sale pieces listed. After renovation I have less wall space, so I am forced to get at listing the paintings~
