I received a frantic call from a lady who lives beside land we rent as pasture today~ People working on her land spotted one of our heifers with her head caught. I called my husband and we headed over. You never know what to expect with cows~ We drove was back through two hay fields, and a pasture keeping a lookout. When we had gone about as far as we could, we spotted her across the field. There she was, her head stuck between two trees~
As we got closer it was apparent that the heifer had probably been there at least a day. She started to panic as we approached, pulling backwards, thrashing her rear end side to side, but she wasn't able to budge.
Luckily my husband thinking ahead brought the chainsaw and began cutting a wedge in the tree. The poor heifer was frightened by the noise, and continued pulling backwards~ Finally, my husband and his friend placed a huge branch in between the two trees and pried them so she could get her head out. Freed, she kicked up her heals and just as she did, the tree came crashing down,...thankfully she was out of the way~ She looked a little stiff as she wandered off searching for the rest of the herd, stopping for a nibble of grass every few steps~ I was really sorry that I didn't have my camera with me.....a picture really is worth a thousand words~! I have seen quite a bit in the twenty plus years I have been here, but this was a first~!
EWES~
The new line of ewes are getting good reviews....thankyou to all who have written to say they like them~!
'what came first the ewe or her bow?' In this case the ewe herself was inspired by her bow~ Too cute~!!! She will be up for auction net week~!
